Musicians have lost everything to covid-19: all their gigs have been cancelled, and the future looks very uncertain, even quite bleak. They have received no emergency funds from the government; many of them fall through the cracks of even the provision for the self-employed. The same applies to theatre and other live venues, and all who work in them. We have had to cancel 11 gigs at the Tree House, affecting 13 musicians, and I am fundraising to try to compensate a little. In the longer term, I would like to help other musicians too. My aim is to give each musician £100; so far we have raised £1000 towards our target of £1300, which is fantastic.
I will be thinking of different ways to raise funds, but anyone who loves live music might also want to simply buy a musician a coffee (our coffees are £5 as they are very good…). Read more here and donate if you can, or spread the word. Stay in touch to see what other things I’ll be doing to raise funds to support them. And I hope that one day we will have live music at the Tree House again.
