If you would like to subscribe, there is now a page where you can either click on a link or use a QR code to sign up. You can unsubscribe from the mailing list at any time using a link in the emails or by contacting me.
In the two weeks since I launched our funding appeal, we have raised nearly £3500! That’s incredible… The local Round Table have given us a generous donation to enable us to get the fascia board of the new premises changed and to buy furniture that we need, including bookcases and chairs for events. We are so grateful to them!
But I am truly humbled by the generosity of so many individuals, who have given varying amounts – every single pound helps us, and all contributions are equally gratefully received! Twitter and Facebook have, as ever, been a wonderful source of support with followers spreading the word as well as donating – it’s amazing when people outside our local area want to contribute.
But overall the message to us is that people support what we want to do, and the funding initiative means that it truly is a community venture, which now belongs in some way to everyone who has contributed. We are very close to finalising the paperwork and moving in, and thanks to the funds we have we should be able to open very soon. I’m also very grateful to E-Warehousing, a local firm whose director is a great friend of the Tree House and has been storing our books and some other bits and pieces – including our fabulous tree! – while we have been closed. So once we are in our premises and have installed bookcases, we will be ready to go! Even before that we will no doubt have a few tables of books, events such as the film club and of course our trusty tea urn on the go.
I hope to have concrete news soon of when we will be moving into our new premises, and where those premises are. In the meantime, a huge THANK YOU to those who have supported us in so many ways, from sharing our news and our funding campaign to giving generously at a time when we’re all still feeling the pinch of recession, I am sure.
We appear to have found new premises…lease being drawn up, fingers crossed it all goes smoothly!
If you would like to contribute to startup funds, please go to our Support page…we need a deposit for the lease, and we will need shelving and/or bookcases, and as soon as possible we would like to install our own fascia sign, which is an expensive business.
As soon as we have possession, we’ll start showing films and doing bits and pieces until we can open as a bookshop again. Will publish more details once it’s all secured – don’t want to tempt fate too much!
